Students on boomsatsuma’s Games VR &VFX Diploma course worked with Shambala Festival organisers to create an animated 3D logo for the festivals’ Adventures In Utopia TV channel, hosting online performances, August 2020.
With the award-winning festival weekender mothballed due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, along with the rest of the world’s live cultural landscape, Shambala organisers switched on their own TV channel to connect with its audience with curated content.
Greg Jamieson, boomsatsuma’s Games Art course leader liaised with Shambala director Sidharth Sharma, guiding five students through the project. Shambala’s brief was to create a textured 3D version of their current logo in keeping with its brand aesthetics and animation.
The artwork was delivered (in .fbx format) well in advance of the August bank holiday digital weekender, for incorporation into Shamabala’s digital platform.
“Having been locked down for much of the year we were delighted to support Shambala festival with their move from green field to a digital platform. The students familiarised themselves with the brand and the ethos of the festival from the website and collaborated brilliantly.”
Each of the students, about to enter their year 13 diploma course, was assigned responsibility for a particular element: Angela Siwka (3D & Texture Artist), Harvey Philips (Lead 3D Artist), Neve Chamberlain (Concept Artist), Eve Callaghan (2D Vector Art & Textures) and Rory Sinclair (3D Artist & Textures).

“We were delighted to give boomsatsuma students the opportunity to work in a commercial environment on a live project. Their creative interpretation of what we requested was of the highest standard and they delivered the assets ahead of the deadline for us to use on our virtual festival.
“Fingers crossed we’ll be getting back in our more familiar festival environments next year, with creative digital art and digital platforms being a part of that experience. We hope that boomsatsuma students are on that journey with us.”
