An actor arriving on set needs a process they can use before the camera turns. That practical requirement sits at the heart of Stuart Wood’s account of BSA’s training in a 2025 feature for The Stage.

Discussing the BA (Hons) Acting for Film, TV and New Media, BSA’s head of school described how students develop the ability to prepare performance independently. The programme responds to work across film and television, with video games and motion capture also informing its design.

The feature places that preparation alongside the conditions in which students learn. Wood discussed the school’s support network and free on-site counselling, connecting the demands of professional work with attention to student wellbeing.
