Robyn Hambrook

Robyn Hambrook is a director, teacher, and performer with 20 years experience specialising in clowning, physical theatre and circus. She holds an MA in Circus Directing and a Diploma in Physical Theatre Practice, and trained with a long line of inspiring teachers including Peta Lily, John Wright, Holly Stoppit and Philippe Gaulier.
A dedicated educator, Robyn founded the Bristol Clown School in 2023, co-created The Online Clown Academy, and developed physical theatre modules for Circus Central (Newcastle) and Circomedia’s BTEC & FDA programmes. Her teaching blends clowning, physical theatre, street arts, and activism, explored through projects like the Nomadic Rebel Clown Academy and The Laboratory of the Un-beautiful.
Robyn’s practice merges performance and social justice, collaborating internationally with groups such as Clown Me In (Beirut) and The Yes Men (US). She also organises the annual Clown Congress, fostering dialogue between clowns, activists, and academics.
