BSA enters its fifth year

By autumn 2024, Bristol School of Acting was entering its fifth year. A feature in The Stage recorded how the school had developed since its founding in 2020.

Stuart Wood described the influence of Michael Chekhov on Stage & Screen training, particularly its attention to imagination and physical action. The feature also traced the dedicated screen programme developed by Matthew Humphreys and the devised-theatre partnership with The Wardrobe Ensemble.

Four degree programmes were listed: Acting for Stage and Screen, Acting for Screen, Acting and Devised Theatre, and Technical Theatre Arts. Wood and Miranda Cromwell led a teaching community working across Bristol’s theatres and studios.

This is a snapshot of BSA at that moment: a young school developing distinct approaches to performance, theatre-making and technical practice within the same institution.
