Head Of School And Co-artistic Director

Stuart is an established theatre director whose work spans major UK tours, new musicals and international productions. He has directed Mahabharata for Sadler’s Wells and over 100 productions for leading drama schools across the UK.

Miranda Cromwell

Co-Artistic Director

Miranda is an Olivier Award-winning director working across new writing, devised theatre, musicals and classic texts. Her credits include Death of a Salesman on Broadway and the West End, the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic.

Matthew Humphreys

Director of Acting Programmes

Matthew is an actor and educator with credits across Broadway, US television and film. He co-created Pace University’s pioneering BFA in Acting for Film, Television, Voiceover & Commercials and trained at LAMDA and Yale.

Matthew Humphreys

Director of Acting Programmes

Matthew is an actor and educator with credits across Broadway, US television and film. He co-created Pace University’s pioneering BFA in Acting for Film, Television, Voiceover & Commercials and trained at LAMDA and Yale.

Mabel Aitken

Head of Acting

Mabel is an actor, director and screen acting specialist with credits across major UK theatres, film and television. A former Lead Acting and Screen Acting Tutor at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, she also mentors for the BFI Academy.

Michelle Gaskell

Head of Movement

Michelle is a movement director, choreographer and teacher with a career spanning dance, theatre and opera. She has worked at Bristol Old Vic and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and has been BSA’s Head of Movement since 2021.

Emily Greenslade

Joint Course Leader Theatre-Making

Emily is a theatre-maker, engagement producer and founding member of The Wardrobe Ensemble. Her work spans devising, performance, producing and artist development, with credits including the National Theatre and The Old Vic.

Tom Brennan

Joint Course Leader Theatre-Making

Tom is a director, playwright, filmmaker and founding member of The Wardrobe Ensemble. His work has been seen at Bristol Old Vic, Trafalgar Studios and across UK tours, alongside associate directing at the Almeida and West End.

James Newton

Joint Course Leader Theatre-Making

James is an actor, theatre-maker, musician and founding member of The Wardrobe Ensemble, with over a decade in devised theatre. His work spans performance, ensemble-making and facilitation with organisations including the National Theatre.

Clara Marullo

Course Leader Foundation Acting for Stage & Screen

Clara founded The Actors’ Workshop Bristol and has a strong record of preparing performers for drama-school training. A former opera and musical-theatre performer, she has worked with Welsh National Opera, Glyndebourne and in the West End.

Jennifer Higham

Jen is an actor, director, choreographer and Co-Director of The Actors’ Workshop Bristol. Her career spans West End theatre, film and television, and she brings extensive professional experience to acting and movement training.

Sasha Tyuftey

Sasha is an award-winning screen and stage actor trained at Shukin Theatre University in Moscow. She has performed extensively in repertory theatre, cinema and national television and is also trained in Meyerhold Biomechanics.

Katy Carmichael

Katy is an actor and director with more than 30 years across stage and screen. Her credits range from Bristol Old Vic and Kneehigh to Spaced, Waterloo Road, Vera and Christopher Robin, alongside extensive actor-training experience.

Joanna Palmer

Pilates and Movement Tutor

Jo is a qualified Pilates instructor and professional aerial acrobat with extensive circus and movement experience. Trained at Circomedia, she has taught Pilates for over eight years, with additional barre and pre/postnatal training.

Robyn Hambrook

Robyn is a director, teacher and performer specialising in clowning, physical theatre and circus. Founder of Bristol Clown School, her practice combines performance, education and socially engaged work across UK and international projects.

Pamela Rudge

Voice Tutor

Pamela is a classical mezzo-soprano, musical director and experienced singing teacher. Former Head of Music and Singing at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, she has trained generations of actors in vocal technique and acting through song.

Annie Mackenzie

Combat Tutor

Annie is a stage and screen combat instructor, fight director and performer. Her credits span theatre and major screen productions including The Witcher, Top Boy and My Lady Jane, bringing current professional combat practice into training.

Bernie Hodges

Bernie is a voice artist, actor, producer and founder of a Bristol voice agency, with over 30 years across television, film, audio drama, games and narration. His work includes projects for the BBC, Channel 4 and National Geographic.

Alison Reid

Acting Tutor

Alison is an actor and director whose career spans the RSC, National Theatre, Bristol Old Vic, film, television and radio. Her stage practice covers classical and contemporary work, alongside directing in the UK and internationally.

Holly Black

Visiting Tutor

Holly is a documentary and experimental filmmaker, director and co-founder of Black Bark Films. Her socially conscious work has screened internationally, and she teaches filmmaking at UWE and mentors emerging filmmakers through the BFI.

Toby Hulse

Toby is a playwright, director and creative practitioner with 20 years’ professional experience. A Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate, his work spans UK theatres, international productions and extensive actor-training practice.

Lucinda Roberts

Voice Tutor

Lucinda is a specialist voice teacher, audio producer, director and commercial voice artist with an MFA in Professional Voice Studies. She has taught stage and screen voice at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Bath Theatre Academy and BSA.

Dan Gitsham

Dan is an award-winning writer-director whose films have screened at over 200 international festivals, including SXSW, Sundance London and London Film Festival. A Screen International Star of Tomorrow, he is developing his debut feature.

Angie is a comedian, performer, coach and award-winning trainer whose work connects comedy, performance and personal development. Her career spans stand-up, acting, radio and internationally recognised Comedy on Referral programmes.

Stephanie West

Stephanie is a qualified Qigong instructor with over a decade of personal practice. Her teaching uses movement, breath and embodiment to support presence, grounding and expressive vitality, bringing embodied practice into actor training.

Jo Barker

Jo is a documentary director, self-shooting PD and editor with over a decade in Bristol television. She has worked on productions for the BBC, Channel 4 and WaterBear and co-runs Black Bark Films, creating socially conscious documentaries.

Sophie Mair

Sophie is an award-winning writer-director whose short films have screened at over 200 international festivals, including SXSW and Sundance London. A BAFTA Connect member, she is developing her debut feature with the BFI Film Fund.
