BSA’s first graduate season began with a play that asks its audience to move. Nancy Medina’s production of María Irene Fornés’ Fefu and Her Friends took the company into a promenade staging at Tobacco Factory Theatres in October 2022.

Aldo Vázquez designed the spaces through which the work unfolded. The company included Shelena Artman as Fefu, with the play’s friendships, tensions and intimate exchanges experienced at close quarters.

Tom Dewey’s Bristol24/7 review praised the relationship between Medina’s direction, Vázquez’s design and Fornés’ writing, as well as the individual performances.

The production ran from 13–15 October. As the first work in the new season, it introduced audiences to a company through a text whose form makes particular demands on performers, designers and spectators alike.
